We’re scientists and entrepreneurs - solving challenging problems is our life’s work. Our desire to investigate unanswered questions about our changing Earth led us to create a company that produces a reliable, constant data stream and enhanced decision making tools for subscribers in the agriculture, forestry, energy, civil and military markets … and everyone else who needs a more comprehensive understanding of Earth.
Lars Dyrud, PhD
President & CEO
Lars has led space-related missions and projects as head of the Earth and Space Science Group at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory and, previously, as a senior scientist and section lead at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory … so he knows a thing or two about Earth observation. He founded OmniEarth to provide industry with the same type of analytics data previously only available to scientists. Lars was a Fulbright Scholar in space and plasma physics at the University of Oslo, and received his PhD from Boston University in supercomputing plasma physics.

He has extensive experience in all aspects of developing enterprise-level information products, and also has strong experience programming experience in Java, Java Enterprise Edition, cloud technologies (SaaS, PaaS, AWS), distributed computing, network programming, database and UI development. Andrew comes to OmniEarth via IRISmaps, which was acquired in 2014. Prior to his work at IRISmaps, Andrew worked at Envista Corp., Parametric Technology, Grinn Corp., and Infopolyprom LTD. Andrew has an MS in computer science from the Kharktov Aviation Institute and has a certificate from Harvard in advanced topics in Java.
Director, Water Products
Chelsea leads OmniEarth's water efficiency efforts, working closely with colleagues across the company to test, market and refine efficiency analytics for our customers. Prior to OmniEarth, Chelsea worked at IRISmaps (Envista) and Tufts University. She holds a BA from Middleburg College in Arts, History and Geography.
David Murr, PhD
David is OmniEarth’s chief scientist and general guru. He has an extensive background in space physics research, data analysis and analytics, and space policy advising. In addition to serving as a senior data scientist at OmniEarth, David is presently a professor at Augsburg College and has held positions at the Department of State, Dartmouth, Boston University, and 3M Corporation. He has a PhD is space physics and astronomy from Boston College, and a BS in physics and mathematics from Augsburg College.
Chief Systems Engineer
Stefan focuses on space-related projects at OmniEarth and ensures that systems can and will deliver the type of analytics-quality data needed to develop our next generation of analytics. He has more than 15 years of engineering experience, including ISS resupply vehicles and concept development for both Earth and planetary science missions. Prior to OmniEarth, Stefan worked at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, GreyPilgrim, and the United Space Alliance. Stefan has a BS and MS in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University, and an MS in engineering management from Tufts.

Marcie brings more than 20 years of related experience to her role as marketing director for OmniEarth. Her experience reaches from electric vehicles to space vehicles and, with her unique background, she has developed easily-understood, persuasive communications for audiences ranging from county officials to senior Congressional leadership. Previously, she has worked at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Northrop Grumman, and Westinghouse. She has a BS in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University, and an MS in technical management from Johns Hopkins.
Shay Strong PhD
Head of Data Analytics
Shay is OmniEarth’s lead data scientist and heads the analytics team. She applies her background in computational astrophysics to evaluate remotely-sensed imagery through deep-learning and machine-learning techniques – transforming bits and pixels into actionable intelligence. Her focus is on automating imagery land-classification and statistical prediction, at scale in the cloud, to support a number of OmniEarth’s analytics products. Her methods have achieved 95% accuracy in distinguishing parcel features such as trees, turf, pools, solar panels, and man-made structures. Shay is also an adjunct physics lecturer at UMBC and, prior to OmniEarth, she held positions at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She holds a PhD in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin.
