Dr. Stephen R. Brand


Stephen Brand has an extensive background in the international petroleum exploration and production industry. He held positions in operations, exploration and R&D during his career at ConocoPhillips, resulting in proven experience in technology development, business management, project development, business development, and strategic planning. Brand is currently on the boards of SM Energy, BPZ Energy, and GeoScale and holds an advisory board position with Welltec. As Senior Executive Advisor at Welltec he advises on development of business and technology that focuses on lowering well costs and improving oil and gas recovery rates. He is a member of the Biofuels Technical Review Panel, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and was the Technology Task Group Chair for the National Petroleum Council’s Future Transportation Fuels Study. Brand graduated with degrees in geology from the University of Minnesota and Purdue University.

Lt. Gen. John H. Campbell, U.S. Air Force (Ret.)


John Campbell has served as Executive Vice President of Government Programs for Iridium Satellite 2006-2012, and continues as Chair of their Government Advisory Board. Prior to that, from 2004 to 2006, he served as Principal, Defense and Intelligence, for Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA). Gen. Campbell joined ARA after retiring from the U.S. Air Force after a 32-year career. In the U.S. Air Force, Gen. Campbell served  as Vice Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and as the first commander of the Joint Task Force - Computer Network Defense. From 1997 to 1998, he served on the Joint Staff of the Pentagon as Deputy Director for Operations. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in computer science and a Master of Business Administration.

Mr. Douglas Gibson


Doug Gibson has a wealth of experience in the international energy sector. He has a proven track record of taking new and advanced technologies to the oil and gas market, including seismic technology, downhole monitoring technology, communications technology and real-time data management. Gibson is currently the Principal Consultant to a major oil company on Seismic and Real Time Data Management systems and Director and Co-Founder of Fotech Solutions, providing first class fiber optic monitoring solutions for downhole, pipelines, security and rail. Previous positions include senior-level roles at Vibtech, Petrosol Venezuela, and Halliburton. Gibson graduated from the University of Dundee with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering.

Dr. Michael D. Griffin


Michael Griffin is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Schafer Corporation.  He was previously the Administrator of NASA from 2005-09, and prior to that was the Space Department Head at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.  He has also held numerous faculty and executive positions, including President and Chief Operating Officer of In-Q-Tel, Chief Executive Officer of Magellan Systems, General Manager of Orbital Science Corporation’s Space Systems Group, and Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at Orbital. Griffin is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the International Academy of Astronautics, an Honorary Fellow and the current President of the AIAA, a Fellow of the AAS, and a Senior Member of IEEE.

Ms. Katherine J. Hall


Katherine Hall has held senior leadership positions in both private industry and the US Intelligence Community. From 2008 – 2013, she was Vice President and General Manager for Global Intelligence at BAE Systems. Previously, she was a senior director at both the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency. Hall holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from George Washington University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Physics from Mount Holyoke College.

Dr. Donald M. Kerr


Don Kerr is a Trustee of the MITRE Corporation; a director of Michael Baker International, LLC; Orbis Operations, LLC; and U.S. Space, LLC; member of the Defense Science Board; and the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Advisory Board. He serves as a consultant for a number of aerospace and defense companies after high-level posts in both corporate and governmental organizations. These positions included Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence; Director of the NRO;  Deputy Director for Science and Technology at the CIA; Assistant Director of the FBI; Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory; and Corporate EVP and Director at SAIC. Dr. Kerr is also a Fellow of the APS and the AAAS.

Mr. Frank McKenna


Frank McKenna served as President and Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors, International Launch Services, from 2006-2012. He became the President of International Launch Services (ILS) and board member in 2006 following two years as Vice President and Deputy of ILS. Additionally, in 2008, Mr. McKenna became the Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of ILS. He has more than three decades of experience in the aerospace and space launch businesses, with Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin Corporation, which was a partner in ILS until October 2006. Mr. McKenna’s background includes business management, business development and strategy, several CFO positions and management of domestic and international joint ventures.

Mr. Chris Morton


Chris Morton brings a wealth of information industry experience to our Advisory Board.  Over the past 20 years, he has successfully driven top-line growth mostly for Thomson Reuters where his last position was Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Corporate Sector, with particular expertise in valuing content for different customer segments.  Mr. Morton earned a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree in applied geophysics from Stanford University, and a bachelor's degree in geology and applied mathematics from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
